We offer group lessons for all swimmers from the beginning adult swimmer who is not confident in the water, to the advanced swimmer looking for help with their technique. Beginner: The goal of this lesson is to increase confidence and basic water skills including breath control, floating, swimming on front and back, treading water, and water safety. Intermediate: The goal of this swim lesson is to increase your basic swim stroke techniques.
Helps participants feel comfortable in the water. This class is designed to start you off at the basics, taking small steps to overcome big challenges. Basic skills, such as face submersion, back floating, basic kicks and arm movements are taught at a pace that suits older less experienced swimmers.
As the foundation of our program, these skills allow students to learn correct swim stroke techniques. Students begin with and build upon skills they are ready to learn, helping them to celebrate their successes, build self-confidence, and enjoy learning to swim and water safety. In this program, teens and adults learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills—swim, float, swim and jump, push, turn, grab.
Adult only lessons are conducted separately from the children lessons with 4 progressive levels. Lessons are held in the leisure pool with the more advanced levels conducted in the 50 metre pool. Please see below for details of each level.
Our Beginner Swimming for Adults program is for adults that have none or limited swimming experience. This class is also ideal for any adult who has a fear of the water. Beginning Swimming for Adults These classes are designed for participants who have NO knowledge of strokes, are afraid of the water and cannot float or swim any stroke or swim a length. Participants may have had no previous instruction in swimming.
YMCA Aquatics is about water safety, skill development, and fun for everyone. We have an aquatic program for every skill level and interest. During this event the car park will be much busier than normal, so please allow extra time to park. Every year, thousands of adults take swimming lessons across the UK. From learning to swim for the first time to developing technique while training for a triathlon or sporting challenge, the London Aquatics Centre has a range of courses and lessons for adults.
